On July 25th – 26th Mission of Mercy teamed up with the Minnesota Dental Association and the Minnesota Dental Foundation to hold its 3rd event in the state at the Verizon Wireless Center, downtown Mankato. During this event 1,000 volunteers provided free dental care to more than 1,500 patients, who had been eagerly lining up around the block since Thursday afternoon.

During the two-day clinic, the group performed over 6,950 dental procedures consisting of: 1,066 fillings, 1,145 extractions, 1,195 x-rays, 334 cleanings, 100 partial dentures, 46 root canals and extensive patient education. These services totaled a value of more than $90,000 in care provided to the Mankato area families and residents.

Over 1,000 volunteers were involved in making all of this possible, which included dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, dental therapists, translators and hundreds of community volunteers. Included among this generous group were Sirona’s very own Tom Erickson, Tom Thuente, and Gary Berg.

Sirona also provided the event with Schick 33 sensors & GALILEOS to assure that the patients were not only receiving the best care possible, but with the best equipment possible. The donation of this dental technology and products combined with the charitable efforts of the volunteers made this a very successful event for the people of Mankato.

“The Mission was a great opportunity to give back to the community and serve people without access to dental care.  It was wonderful to see so many volunteers involved in MOM, what an operation!” commented Sirona employee, Tom Thuente.

The Minnesota Dental Foundation raised $214,000 in donations to cover the cost of the event and invested countless hours of preparation and execution to make the weekend a success. Sirona is proud to say that they were able to not only volunteer at such a dynamic event, but also donate technology, Schick 33 sensors, XG3D Ready, XG5, and XG3D, to assist in the generous service that the Mission of Mercy has continued to provide those in need.
